Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Endocrine disorders are disorders related to the body’s endocrine glands. The endocrine system produces hormones, which are chemical signals sent out, or secreted through the bloodstream. Hormones help to regulate body processes such as appetite, breathing, growth, fluid balance, feminization and virilization, and weight control.
The endocrine system consists of several glands, including the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the brain, adrenal glands in the kidneys, and thyroid in the neck; It also includes organs like the pancreas, ovaries and testes, as well as the stomach, liver and intestines, which also secrete hormones related to digestion. The most common endocrine disorders are related to improper functioning of the pancreas and the pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands.
Common endocrine disorders include:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Acromegaly – overproduction of growth hormone
- Addison’s disease – decreased production of hormones by the adrenal glands
- Cushing’s syndrome – high cortisol levels for extended periods of time
- Graves’ disease – type of hyperthyroidism resulting in excessive thyroid hormone production
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis – autoimmune disease resulting in hypothyroidism and low production of thyroid hormone
- Hyperthyroidism – overactive thyroid
- Hypothyroidism – underactive thyroid
- Prolactinoma – overproduction of prolactin by the pituitary gland.
These disorders often have widespread symptoms, affect multiple parts of the body, and can range in severity from mild to severe. Treatment depends on each specific disorder, but often focuses on adjusting hormone balance using synthetic hormones.
Aging, in men, is associated with reduced protein synthesis, decreased lean body mass, decreased bone mass, and increased body fat. Women who go through menopause will notice dramatic changes in skin thickness, texture, hydration, and tightness. Women who stop hormone therapy notice the same disturbing changes. Studies have shown that loss of thyroid, estrogen, and testosterone hormones are responsible for this detrimental effect on the skin. The only way to treat and prevent changes in skin collagen, elastin, and prevent wrinkles is through hormone replacement therapy. Replenishment of hormones to physiological levels (optimal but within normal limits) has been shown to alleviate these age-related changes. By fixing the proper hormonal levels, immunity is restored, and prevention of future diseases is achievable. Wellness Architects will help you prevent and treat the signs of aging. If you feel better on the inside, you will look better on the outside.
Hormones decline in all people as they age. When hormone levels in a young person are not optimal, doctors offer alternatives to correct it, but when the same situation happens to an older adult, it may be considered normal (due to aging) by the primary care physician and no replacement is offered to optimize your hormone levels. We work on correcting and balancing hormone levels to prevent the damage that may be caused by the lack of these in the body.
Bioidentical hormones are natural hormones identical in structure to the hormones found in your body. These natural hormones come from plants, animals, and/or are synthetically manufactured. This applies to all types of hormones, including thyroid hormones, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA. We use optimal ranges to evaluate patient outcomes and thus, replenish hormone levels as necessary. Prevention proves to be essential, since erratic hormone levels may lead to diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, as well as osteoporosis, muscular atrophy, and sleep disorders. By restoring adequate hormonal balance, immunity is promoted, consequently preventing conditions associated with aging.

We use radiology and laboratory results to make the diagnosis and recommendations to start with a program designed only for each patient. In addition to measuring hormones, risk factors are evaluated, such as Cardiac CRP, PSA, DHT, Homocysteine, among others. Also, work on levels of Insulin, Glucose, and Glycosylated Hemoglobin, which are associated with diabetes.
